About
the Programs
RMIT's
internationally recognised Computer Science programs
are offered through its School of Computer Science and
Information Technology, in the Faculty of Applied Science.
The program is designed in a modular structure allowing
students to enrol into a two-year Diploma program or
four-year Bachelor degree.
RMIT
will accredit the AVU Computer Science program until
the end of 2006. This will provide graduates who complete
by 2006 with an RMIT transcript of results and graduation/certification
and an RMIT award according to the level of program
achieved: certificate, diploma, bachelor pass degree
or bachelor degree with distinction. From the end of
2007 onwards the University of Dar Es Salaam (UDSM)
will manage the program.
Diploma
of Computer Science
Duration:
2 Years
Commencing: February 2005
The
diploma program is designed to provide students with
a set of defined competencies that ensure that they
are work ready for para-professional positions in the
IT or scientific industries. It also provides them with
a framework for computing knowledge so that, at a later
stage they are able to continue study in a Computer
Science or Information Technology discipline without
difficulty.
Bachelor
of Applied Science (Computer Science)
Duration:
4 years
Commencing: February 2005
The purpose of the degree program is to produce graduates
with excellent skills in programming, communication
and software development, and to ensure that students
have the necessary knowledge for further study through
research. This program provides graduates with knowledge,
skills and attitudes that meet the needs of the current
and anticipated future computing environment.
Mode
of delivery
These programs are taught by maximising the use of technology
with the aim of enhancing the learning experience.
A
variety of modes of delivery are used including online
course material using the WebCT platform, interactive
tests and quizzes with immediate feedback, synchronous
and asynchronous discussion forum, CDRom-based material,
real time lectures, videos, textbooks, and supplementary
notes.
Alternative
tools will be available to ensure that students can
continue studying if, for any reason, some modes of
delivery are unavailable.
Each
course has a facilitator who will assist students to
work through the course material, manage student queries,
and provide feedback to both students and an RMIT mentor.
The mentor is teamed with a facilitator in each participating
African University, and works closely with all facilitators
to ensure that students gain maximum benefit from the
course material and receive all necessary support during
the course.
