RMIT Flight Training
Program Pathways
Pathways to Your
Career
RMIT flight training programs are designed to provide flexibility in fulfilling your chosen career path and meet the entry requirements of local civil aviation authorities and airlines. Programs are offered at a range of levels from certificate, diploma, bachelor degree to postgraduate studies. Most programs allow you to advance to higher level academic qualifications with credit and advanced
standing. Programs commence in February and July.
Certificate and Diploma
Programs
These programs provide the theory and practical flying training necessary to obtain a General Flying Progress Test, private pilot licence, commercial pilot licence and/or air transport pilot licence theory and instrument rating. Graduates may undertake work in general aviation before advancing to positions with major carriers. Initial employment could be instructing, tourism, charter or freight
work. Diploma and advanced diploma programs articulate into the Bachelor of Applied Science (Aviation) with credit of 1-1.5 years.
Degree Programs
Research indicates that a consolidated one-year initial training program to commercial pilot licence (CPL) is the most effective way to develop the flying skills required by a professional pilot. Many employers consider that graduates of degree programs (where flight training is undertaken over a three year period) require considerable additional flight experience before
employment.
RMIT offers a three-year degree in Bachelor of Applied Science (Aviation), airline operations stream that incorporates flight training and a degree program. The program includes the Diploma in Air Transport (Airline Pilot) followed by further academic study completed by distance education. This allows students to gain intensive flight training experience during the first year followed by distance education study for the degree. The degree can be completed part-time whilst working in aviation and gaining further flying
experience.
Postgraduate Programs
RMIT offers graduate certificate, graduate diploma and master programs in aviation management.
English Language
Programs
RMIT University English Worldwide (REW) offers programs for student
whose first language is not English:
- General English language tuition from elementary to advanced levels
- A specialist aviation English program designed for future pilots and those planning to work in the aviation industry in other areas, such as air traffic control. The program focuses on developing speaking and listening skills to meet the requirements of flight training and the aviation industry.
